Copernicus Project

The mission of this project is to improve student learning by bringing about fundamental change and improvement in teacher preparation programs. Such changes include increasing teachers' academic content preparation in areas they intend to teach; integrating reliable research-based teaching methods into the education curriculum; providing sustained and high quality preservice clinical or field experience; and creating opportunities for professional development activities that improve the academic content knowledge of teachers in their target certification areas and strengthen teaching skills. The central focus is on improving the achievement of students in science through improved teacher quality in science.
