ALIAS - Accelerated Literacy Integrating Algebra and Science
A team of UCR professors, middle and high school teachers create inquiry based projects and laboratory/ career experiences for the sequence of science classes. Based on previous analysis of current practices, teachers are selecting supplemental materials, acquiring new content knowledge and developing curricular units that are aligned to the state standards. The overarching aim in these activities is to build student awareness and motivation for advanced courses in science.

COMPASS (Content Opportunities in Mathematics Program for All Secondary Students)
The goal of Project COMPASS is to expose students to the integration of mathematics and technology. The Texas Instrument TI 89 graphing calculator will be used to develop the connections between analytical methods and graphical representations of solutions to problems from higher-level mathematics. Sponsored by the UCR's Alpha Center, students receive instruction in mathematics, in technology, and how to combine both to develop a deeper understanding of critical thinking.

GATE (Girls Achieving Technological Excellence)
Project GATE is a program to introduce middle school girls to technology and technology-based careers in a stimulating and intimate environment. Project GATE familiarizes participants with the computer, the Internet, the Microsoft Office package, and technology based careers. Participants are exposed to positive female role models and learn about women who have contributed significantly to the development of technology. The girls hear directly from speakers currently working in technology-based careers in the Southern California region. As a result of the academic foundation provided by this academy, participants will be more familiar with technology, have more positive attitudes toward technology and hopefully consider technology-based careers.
